We welcome all people to our church, wherever you are on your journey of faith. We encourage reflection, question and discussion to help us explore and deepen our Christian faith. We strive to reach the needs of our congregation, the local community and beyond.

Ash Wednesday
Feb 14 @ 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Ash Wednesday this year is 14th February. We will be holding a Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes at St Mary Magdalene at 8:00pm. Everybody welcome!

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, the six weeks before the celebration of Easter. During Lent, we focus on repentance and our need to renew and deepen our commitment to following Jesus. At our church there will be extra events such as lunches after the main Sunday service, and a Lent course and discussion group.

The Ashes of Ash Wednesday are made of the palm crosses used at the previous Easter.

The cross reminds us that we are mortal, and that we follow Jesus who was crucified. Repentance and fasting have been associated with dust and ashes since biblical times. Coming up to the altar rail during the service to receive ashes will be explained at the time, and is optional.

Lent Course: Forgiveness and Reconciliation
Feb 15 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

We shall be running a Lent Course on Forgiveness and Reconciliation on Thursdays at 7:30pm from 15th Feb to 22nd March inclusive. We’ll meet in the Vestry Hall and serve soup or simple suppers to go with our talks. Please contact any of the clergy or staff team to sign up so that we have some idea of numbers.

Everyone is welcome to discuss how we as Christians can deal with the aftermath of serious conflict or damage in our lives and those around us. This is a tough topic, yet the recent work done to heal communities and discover more about how individuals can be resilient may lead us to hope, faith and love.

Women’s World Day of Prayer
Mar 2 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Women’s World Day of Prayer is an annual event, organised by women in churches worldwide. Each year a different country takes a turn producing the liturgy and this year we have a theme of safeguarding and caring for the environment arranged by the women of Suriname.

St Mary Magdalene is hosting the event for our local group of churches this year. Everyone is particularly welcome, it would be great to have a good turnout from the home team, and you don’t have to be a woman to attend!

There will be time for the service and also to catch up over tea and cake before the school run begins.
