Eligibility

St Mary Magdalene is available for funerals for anyone who lived within the parish or who had a strong connection with the church.

A church funeral: can offer a very fitting way in which your loved one can be remembered and entrusted into the love and peace of God. This can be a small, quiet ceremony or a large occasion in a packed church.

Remember that we are here for you. If you would like prayers, a quiet talk or some one-to-one support, contact us or ask someone to do it for you. Contact the church office or leave a request for prayers by email.

Memorial Services

These can be planned, with the help of the vicar, well in advance of a convenient date.

For your banns to be read at SMM go through the following steps…

1. Check that you live in the parish

You can check our Parish Map to see if you qualify. If you do, fill in and sign the Marriage Banns Application Form.

If it's not clear from the map if you live in the parish please go to A Church Near You where you can type in your postcode and they will tell you the parish you live in.

2. Return the form

Please return the completed form, along with payment either online (bank details can be found on this page) or to the Parish Office at 10a Wiseton Road, London SW17 7EE.

3. Your Banns will be read

We will contact you with dates for the three Sundays on which your banns will be called. We would love to see you in church to hear them read.

After the third reading you will be contacted to arrange collection of the certificate which should be given to the clergy member conducting your wedding before the big day.

Eligibility

To have a right to marry in the church, you have to live in the parish (see our Parish Map), be a regular worshipper at the church or have a “qualifying connection” with the church. 

Before the wedding

Planning the service

Timing

We have regular Sundays set aside when baptisms take place within our 10am service and the whole congregation can welcome the newly baptised.

Preparation

Those being baptised and their families receive preparation before the baptism day and a chance to ‘walk through’ the service.

Godparents

For babies and young children, it is a requirement that Godparents should be baptised themselves. Traditionally girls have two Godmothers and one Godfather. For boys it’s the other way around.

Fees: There are no fees for baptisms at SMM, but we always welcome a donation towards activities and the upkeep of our beautiful church.

Beginners

2-5 years. Stories, songs and lots of play. The perfect way into church life and you get to do it with friends!

Stepping Stones

5-8 years. Out with the glue sticks & crayons! Creative ways to understand those bible stories and welcome in God’s love.

Seekers

8-11 years. Have a fun time learning more about the bible through games, craft and drama!

Check it out

11+ years. Exploring their own ideas about faith through art projects, games and lively chat!

Parents and Carers

Parents and carers are welcome to stay and join in the fun until children feel relaxed and confident enough to stay on their own.

Each group is brought back into church for communion with parents/carers

10am Parish Eucharist

Our main service with hymns, sermon, and choir as we share in the Holy Communion together. Followed by refreshments, it’s the perfect opportunity to meet with friends, neighbours, and fellow worshippers.

Children are very welcome to stay in church with parents. However at the 10am service there’s fun to be had at Junior Church (see details here).

Babies & Toddlers

If the service gets a ‘bit much’ for tiny church goers, there is a Parent and Child room where you can sit quietly with them and still hear the service.

Monday and Tuesday

9.15am Morning Prayer

A chance to ease yourself into the day with quiet, reflective prayers and readings.

Wednesday

11am Midweek Eucharist

A calm and relaxed communion service. Plus a chance to stay on for coffee and chat.
