Death of Her Majesty the Queen

September 8th 2022

Dear friends,

The death of our beloved Queen Elizabeth has just been announced by Buckingham Palace. We join with one another and the whole nation in great sorrow and also great thanksgiving for her remarkable life of dedication and service. We also know of the Queen's strong and abiding faith and entrust her into God's love and light and peace. We also hold the Queen's children in our prayers, in this great personal loss of both their mother and their father within the last 18 months, as we also pray for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

St Mary Magdalene church will be open tomorrow (Friday 9th September) from 8am to 6pm for all those from the local community who may wish to come into to pray, to light a candle or leave a message of condolence.

The flag is already flying at half-mast.

We will join with churches across the nation in tolling the bell at noon tomorrow.

If any church members are available between 8 and 6pm tomorrow to sit in church, talk with any who may come in in distress, or even make a cup of tea, please do e-mail me.

The service this Sunday (11th September at 10am) will commemorate the Queen and more details will follow.

Mean while we pray for HM the Queen and her beloved family.

You may like to offer the prayers below:

O God, the maker and redeemer of all mankind, grant us, with thy
servant QUEEN ELIZABETH and all the faithful departed, the sure
benefits of thy Son’s saving passion and glorious resurrection; that in the
last day, when all things are gathered up in Christ, we may with them
enjoy the fullness of thy promises, through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord,
who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, one
God, world without end.
Amen.

FURTHER PRAYERS

O Lord our Heavenly Father, Almighty and Everlasting God, by whom
kings reign and princes decree justice: We remember before thee our late
Sovereign Lady QUEEN ELIZABETH, in thankfulness for the blessings
which thou hast bestowed upon us by her reign; for the example she set
of unwearied devotion to duty; for her steadfast courage; and for the love
and loyalty borne to her by a great family of peoples in all parts of the
world. And we beseech thee to give us grace that, having these thy mercies
in remembrance, we may with one heart and one mind set forward the
welfare of this land, and hasten the coming of thy kingdom of peace and
goodwill among men; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Almighty God, Father of all mercies and giver of all comfort: deal
graciously, we pray thee, with all those who mourn, the members of the
Royal Family, this Nation and all Nations of the Commonwealth, that
casting every care on thee, we may know the consolation of thy love;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

May Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth rest in peace
And rise in glory
warmest wishes and prayers,
Philippa
